4 Things To Do Before Your Eye Exam

Nice job! You've booked in an eye exam, which is an awesome action step in taking care of your body. Comprehensive eye exams are a pretty standard appointment for people every year (some, even more frequent) and it's important to be prepared for your annual check to get the most out of your appointment. Here are 4 things to do before your eye exam to ensure for a smooth sailing optometrist visit.

1. Pack your glasses and contacts

It's essential that you bring any eyewear that you rely on at the time of your appointment. That includes prescription glasses, contacts, sunglasses and special eyewear (like protective glasses) that you might also use for work or personal use. All of these items will allow your optometrist to fully asses your eyes and how well your eyewear is suited to your eyesight.

2. Remember your personal information

At Zephyr Medical, our services are bulk billed. You'll need to bring your medicare card to an appointment so we can make sure the cost is covered. It's also a good idea to bring any previous information a different/previous optometrist has given you in the past so that we better understand your eye health history.

3. Avoid coffee or alcohol

You might be surprised by this one, but caffeine and alcohol are both culprits for raising blood pressure. In your annual eye exam, we'll need to measure blood pressure, and to ensure we get the most accurate reading, it's best to avoid these substances before your exam.

4. Familiarise yourself with what to expect at your eye exam

If you or someone you know is particularly nervous or scared about an upcoming eye exam, the best thing you can do is prepare for what to expect. We have a lot of resources on our Instagram, Facebook and blog to help you understand the different tests performed in an eye exam. Above all, there is nothing to be afraid of at an eye exam. Your optometrist will take great care of you and your eyes!

Well folks, that's all there really is to it! We can't wait to see you for your next eye appointment. And as always, feel free to send us any questions you may have about optometry appointments.
